Who Cares? is an intimate exploration of motherhood and care, especially of those whose path includes caring for children with disabilities. MAC commissioned artist Kaye Winwood to work with mothers from Balsall Heath CATS, a local group founded to support families with children with disabilities.

Motherhood, with its kaleidoscope of emotions and relentless demands, often shapes identities and boundaries in profound ways. For mothers of children with disabilities, this journey extends far beyond typical adolescence, demanding unwavering strength, love and resilience. With MAC, Kaye Winwood has provided a nurturing space for these remarkable mothers and carers to gather, unwind, connect and create.

The project focuses on ways to incorporate self-care into the participants’ everyday rituals. Through various artistic mediums and therapeutic experiences, the group has explored photography, poetry, ceramics, aromatherapy and sensory self-care. Each session is a sanctuary of respite, offering moments of relaxation and reflection amidst the chaos of everyday life. The exhibition presents some of the outcomes of their creative process - objects, words and images that embody the essence of resilience and love. From handmade ceramics to photographs, each piece tells a story of strength and solidarity.

The project will continue throughout 2024.
