‘Going for an English’ supper club is in collaboration with Monica Sawhney Haldar founder of The Spice Club and Shikshak.
This unique dining experience stems from Monica’s personal histories, in particular the stereotypes she encountered as a child and the unrecognisable anglocizing of Indian cuisine in the UK.
We laughed about the sketch 'Going for an English' in the comedy show ‘Goodness Gracious Me’ where the comedians parody a typical Friday night out - referencing lairy behaviour, and trying to surpass each other by ordering the “blandest thing on the menu” (rather than the 'spiciest'). It is bloody hilarious - and if you haven’t seen it watch it online!
This incredible experience creates a narrative of a Friday night out, in a playful and irreverent menu, whilst showcasing Monica's extraordinary cooking of home-style Indian food, made from the heart to fill bellies and souls.
